What I have learned in Indonesia for 14 days!
I didn’t know how the prior training classes are important until joined this activity. Not only have to understand their culture, but also have to learn their dialect. Moreover, English is important because the a few local people can speak in English, so I have to use English to get some Indonesian vocabularies, nevertheless, we needed to use English and Indonesian languages to present our presentation as training classes. These reasons cause me learn languages faster than ever. Training classes for 3 months make me reduce to make troubles and make mistakes, besides, prior preparation racks my brain, those accounts make me to discover more on the trip. It’s really help that discusses about the schedule arrangement beforehand. Moreover, the Raisinay Tribe, where I lived before abroad, is like the living of Padang. It makes me get started more easily there. For tie in their organic farming policy, I make organic breads beforehand. Share history, custom, news, languages, local disasters, music songs, living ways, Padang cooperators…etc. with CHU students, those make me know more about them, decrease the gap in their thinking and doing.
I find that they have “world outlook”. They try to prevent and cure disasters, they are knowledgeable on this topic. The local people are passionate when they see me, They greet me actively with smile and then, both of us will leave facebook information. I am overwhelmed by their unexpected favor. They won’t astonish at me because of I am a Christian. When I share experience on the stage, they are all pay attention on me. It make me feel the mission is super important. After sharing, they discuss the content what I taught with me. I think I should learn from them, not they should learn from me. During the prior training classes, there have some things to reflect. In my opinion, the training time is very short, besides, a few people drop out on the way. Cultivate a person is not simple, hope the courses can be intensive so that this team can be more solidly, reduce the drop-out.
This intern, when they ask me what am I fond of in Indonesia. I always say “Nature” because the food here is packed up by newspaper and leave. There are considerable trees and mountains. Besides, they have horse-drawn carriages to reduce CO2. Their furniture is almost made of wood. On TV, their traditional dance and custom are often disseminated. Their chicken, baffle, goat are wild, we can see them on the street, and I take many photos of it. At night, they get together with neighbors and chat. I fancy this kind of living. Hope they will reduce to cut trees and maintain the natural balance after NGO helps.
At last, I want to thank all my families, my friends, CHU supports, the prior training classes organization, and CHU international exchange students, you accompany me until I go abroad, besides, thank the local passionate people, and local helpers, thank you all enrich my life and become more colorful, very gratefully!!
9, Okt. Visit Guguk field(1) !!
We visit Guguk field today. First of all, they attended organic lesson, it taught how to make the percentage of pesticide. After explaining, they went outside to experiment. Mr. Paido chopped the plants to be used as organic pesticide. You can see it obviously, the following are organic pesticides, the left one is organic pesticide that is ready to use. The right one is the fresh material for making pesticide. They have different functions. The left is used to control pests (flea and suckers). Many plants were chopped into small pieces and then smashed in the mortar until it produced the essence. Then, it was mixed with the urine of goat, and squeezed as shown by the left one. Ingredients of left one are surian (toonia sureni merr) leaves (5 ons), garlic (2 ons), galangal (3 ons), brotowali/tinospora tuberculata beume leaves (4 ons), pinang ( 1 piece), lemongrass (4 ons), goat’s urine ( 1 litre). The right is used to control maggot and pests that eat leaf. Ingredients of right one are lagundi/vitex negundo leaves (5 ons), sousop leaves (5 ons), betel leaves (5 ons), clove leaves (5 ons), lemongrass (4 ons), mahogany leaves (5 ons), cinnamon leaves (5 ons), goat’s urine (4 litre).
When they pestled, suddenly, we wanted to join, then, we took turns. It turned out to be fun, because I am an urban dweller, never did it before. I could not believe my first time planting would happen abroad, it is a marvelous feeling. Afterward, we went to learn how a fertilizer forms. We saw a plenty of brown moisturized haystack, after asking, we knew it is made from rice straw and cow manure.
Next, we took small truck to visit Mr. Munir St. Rajolelo’s compost place. We saw his loofahs and eggplants, he gave us some eggplants. It caused us to buy some food ingredients to do Taiwan cooking for staffs next time. We also saw the buffalo chips, not smell at all.
Then, he passionately introduced us cacao trees. I thought the appearance is weird, maybe because I had not seen it before. The cacao did not ripe, but he took two for us. this is my first time to eat unripe and unhandled food. Afterward, we found that broke the fasting today, it was too late! I like the flavor of cacao. On the way back, we saw rambutan trees and stole a few of it. When we backed, the farmers almost pestled over. Seeing the farms around, I realized that the harvest in the mood was hard to describe. It had to pass through many processes that became our foods. It made me treasure any plate. On the way home, we encountered their pray time, so stopped for a while, I think the pray five times per day make their patient and steady.
晚上我們去KKPM(Konsorsium Pengembangan Masyarakat Madani=公民發展促進聯盟)聚會,它是NGO組織,我們在那邊認識很多朋友,而且看到Aal老婆Azura和Arung,好開心,很久沒看到。
This night, we went to KKPM (Konsorsium Pengembangan Masyarakat Madani=civil society development association) reunion, it is a NGO. We met many friends there, by the way, we saw Aal’s wife Elfa and children Azura and Arung. I was so happy because we had not seen for a long time. Before dinner, they gave us kolak pisang and es timun. The former is made of banana, coconut milk, and palm sugar. The latter is made of cucumbers and melon syrup. Really delicious and unforgettable, recommended! Recommend! The dinner flavor was spicy as usual, I really like spicy but I hear that eating spicy makes stomach hurt, I avoid it. I never thought it would happen in Indonesia every day. It made me happy everyday, but small Apple…lost her weight successfully, haha.

Okt,6 and 7, weekend trip !!
Today, we go to Padang Train Station. We meet Dicky who is a shy boy and chat with other handsome policemen for a while. Then, we go to ANDALAS PLAZA. A pink store is attracted to Apple and I. The two boy wait outside for a while, then, they come in. They say they don't dare to come inside originally until we come in. David buys a earring. Afterward, we go to local chinatown and have delicious lunch in a Mandarin restaurant. It's a pity that the Mandarin waitress can't speak Mandarin. I am so touched there, this is first time that I can only speak in Mandarin on trip and talk Hokenese with temple abbot and housekeeper. Using the languages make me recall my hometown. I leave the temple with satisfied, then, I see "Fu De Hall" nearby, we go inside. It is rebuilt by host. The host says something make me impressed. He said although he is a Muslim, but Buddhism is a part Chinese culture of his ancestry. I think he is right, history should be recorded.
Going to bridge to assemble with Amii, we hang around. Because its a sunny day, the view is beautiful. We take many photos. After, we come back home by Angkot. The Angkot pull in for a few minutes, so we take a look at grocery. We find there is a home fridge as vending machine, it is interesting!! This night, Amii is tired and sleep in our room. Today is a special day. I anticipate tomorrow.
Tomorrow to Andalas University(=UNAND) to wait Rendi, Ari, David, and Alex. Rendi arrives and teaches us how to ride moto. Apple is happy to ride it. Wait a few minutes, Malaysia friends assmble. We go to play facilities in UNAND. The facilities purpose is for training "Climbing mountain". At the first, I see Amii, it seems not hard to play. Then, Malaysians play. After them, we go upstairs and find it is "HORRIBLE". It's too bad that I don't take her screams and raises her middle finger to me, haha. I just calm and pass through the whole slowly. Thanks for David, or I will scream loudly. When we finish, we sweat all of our body. I really extremely struggle to keep my balance. Apple has a cramp in right hand and falls behind in the end. What a shock! Rendi falls forward and behind in high-speed. Next, we go to Padang beach. Apple trips over a rock for taking photo below the rock. She bruises her bottom and she can't sit directly for a week. It really hurts!! Afetr that, we go to have dinner in front of Andalas Plaza and small Apple was playing mimic game with Rendi. Then, go shopping inside until Ati pick us up. We are happy these two days, so we still date Andalas students next week lol.
